Former
finance minister Agus Martowardojo will use his spare time to prepare for the
transition to work as Bank Indonesia (BI) governor in May.
“I
will prepare myself for the new assignment at Bank Indonesia,” he said as
quoted by Antara news agency.
He
made the statement after officially handing over his job to acting finance
minister Hatta Rajasa, who is also the coordinating economic minister, in
Jakarta on Monday.
Agus
said he would also fill the time available to strengthen relations with both
friends and relatives whom he had little time to spend with while he was a
minister.
On
the President’s decision to dismiss him as a finance minister, Agus said
he learned the news when he was attending the G20 meeting in the US.
Shortly
after receiving the information, he delegated the task to lead the Indonesian
representatives at the G20 meeting to the Finance Ministry’s fiscal agency
interim head, Bambang Brodjonegoro.
With
the issuance of Presidential Regulation No.44/2013, President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono dismissed Agus as finance minister.
Yudhoyono
expressed gratitude for the dedication and meritorious service of Agus during
his time as the finance minister.
Agus
has been selected as BI governor for 2013-2018, replacing Darmin Nasution,
whose term expires in May. (ebf)
